Morecambe Bay and Duddon Estuary Special Protection Area contains the largest continuous area of intertidal mudflats and sandflats in the UK and is internationally recognised for its importance to overwintering birds.

About Us

The Morecambe bay area has a rich history and a diverse ecology. This site is my attempt to make sense of the overwhelming volume of information available online.

The Bay

Morecambe Bay stretches from Walney Island in the northwest to The Fylde in the southeast and is made up of the combined estuaries of the rivers Leven, Kent, Keer, Lune and Wyre. In Britain it is second only in size to The Wash.
